FARO 3D scanning, drone photogrammetry, and vehicle data extraction that turn physical evidence into evidence a jury can actually see.

What it covers

The technology and specialized methods behind our investigations, the tools that turn physical evidence into evidence a jury can actually see, and preserve it before it's gone.

‍

When you need it

Why it matters: A jury doesn't have to imagine a scene from a written description when they can see an accurate 3D model of it. These tools also help preserve perishable evidence, vehicle data, and scene conditions before they're lost, and the sooner we're on scene, the more of that evidence survives.

How we approach it

Black box downloads via the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval system, supporting nearly every major vehicle manufacturer, plus Electronic Control Module downloads from heavy equipment engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, International, Mack, Mercedes, Paccar, Volvo). FARO 3D laser scanning to capture an accurate three-dimensional model of a roadway, vehicle, or piece of equipment, ready to drop into a simulation or animation. An electronic total station for precise scene mapping. Slip testing with the industry's standard meters, including the English XL, Brungraber Mark II and III, and the BOT-3000E. Illuminance and luminance meters to measure actual lighting and contrast conditions, not estimate them. High-resolution day and night photography and video. And for analysis itself, PC-Crash and HVE-2D for scientifically validated vehicle simulations. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm current drone site surveying and vehicle scanning capabilities with Michael, since these are newer additions since the equipment list above was last documented]

Making technical findings understandable

Modern forensic investigations may incorporate three-dimensional laser scanning, photogrammetry, electronic vehicle data retrieval, engineering simulations, and technical visualizations. These methods help document evidence, evaluate competing accident scenarios, and communicate complex engineering concepts. Properly validated visualizations can assist attorneys, insurers, judges, and juries in understanding an incident.
