Jim's background combines a tenured engineering professorship with two decades of forensic consulting. Before joining BK&A, he served as Senior Consultant at ARCCA Inc. and Principal Consultant at Rimkus Consulting Group, providing accident reconstruction and failure analysis for the legal and insurance industries, and personally managed more than 110 case files a year at Rimkus. Earlier in his career, he held a tenured professorship at the University of Notre Dame and research and leadership roles at Zimmer Holdings. He is co-author of Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods (3rd Edition, SAE International, 2021), a widely used textbook in the field, and holds an ACTAR accident reconstruction certification.
Jim earned his Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from Caltech, his M.S. in Materials Science from UC Berkeley, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, also from UC Berkeley. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in both California and Washington.
